The Producer and Import Price Index in Switzerland increased in March 2023 by 0.2% compared with the previous month, reaching 109.3 points (December 2020 = 100). Food products in particular were more expensive. Petroleum products, in contrast, became cheaper. Compared with March 2022, the price level of the whole range of domestic and imported products rose by 2.1%. These are the results from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).

In particular, higher prices for dairy products, other food products, bakery products and pasta, scrap and textiles were responsible for the growth in the producer price index compared with the previous month.

The import price index registered higher prices compared with February 2023, particularly for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts as well as for food products. Other transport equipment, vegetables, melons and potatoes, leather and related products, green coffee, computers and wearing apparel also became more expensive. In contrast, prices for petroleum products, non-ferrous metals and products made therefrom, petroleum and natural gas as well as processed steel fell.
