STEEL PRODUCTION IN TÜRKİYE

Türkiye’s crude steel production in August 2022 decreased by 21% compared to the same month of the previous year and became 2.8 million tons.

In the first 8 months of the year, production decreased by 8.8% to 24.4 million tons.

STEEL CONSUMPTION

Final product consumption in August was 2.3 million tons with a decrease of 12.1% compared to the same month of 2021, and 21.9 million tons with a decrease of 5.4% in the first 8 months of the year.

FOREIGN TRADE

Export

In August, exports of steel products amounted to 1.4 million tons with a 25% decrease in quantity and 1.2 billion dollars with a 31.5% decrease in value.

In the January-August period, compared to the same period of 2021, exports amounted to 11.1 million tons with a decrease of 12.4% in quantity, and 10.5 billion dollars with an increase of 8.8% in value.

Imports

Compared to the same month of 2021, imports in August reached 1.1 million tons with a decrease of 7.1% in terms of quantity and 1.3 billion dollars with a decrease of 7.9% in terms of value.

In the first 8 months of 2022, imports, compared to the same period of the previous year, amounted to 10.2 million tons with a 5.6% decrease in quantity and 11.2 billion dollars with an increase of 20.7% in value.

While the share of imports in steel products consumption was 31.8%, the share of imports in flat product consumption reached 49%. The share of imports made within the scope of DIR in total imports was 65.3%.

Foreign Trade Balance

The ratio of exports to imports, which was 104.2% in the first 8 months of 2021, decreased to 93.9% in the same period of this year.
