Roughly 45.4 million persons resident in Germany were in employment in August 2022. According to provisional calculations of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the seasonally adjusted number of persons in employment was slightly down by 6,000, or 0.0%, compared with the previous month, following a monthly increase of 34,000 to finally 20,000 people in the months from April to July 2022. Thus the seasonally adjusted number of persons in employment did not increase further for the first time in one and a half years.

Adjusted unemployment rate remained at 3.0% in August 2022

According to calculations based on the labour force survey, 1.32 million people were unemployed in August 2022. That was a decrease of 125,000, or 8.6%, compared with August 2021. The unemployment rate was 3.0% (August 2021: 3.4%).

Adjusted for seasonal and irregular effects for instance due to weather conditions or strike, the number of unemployed stood at 1.30 million, remaining on the level of July 2022. The adjusted unemployment rate was 3.0% in August 2022.
