Seasonally adjusted GDP climbed by 0.2 percent in the euro area and 0.4 percent in the EU in the first quarter of 2022, compared to the previous quarter. GDP increased by 0.3 percent in the euro region and 0.5 percent across the EU in the fourth quarter of 2021.

Compared with the same quarter of the previous year, seasonally adjusted GDP increased by 5.0% in the euro area and by 5.2% in the EU in the first quarter of 2022, after +4.7% in the euro area and +4.9% in the EU in the previous quarter.

Among the Member States for which data are available for the first quarter 2022, Portugal (+2.6%) recorded the highest increase compared to the previous quarter, followed by Austria (+2.5%) and Latvia (+2.1%). Declines were recorded in Sweden (-0.4%) and in Italy (-0.2%). The year on year growth rates were positive for all countries.
