External trade of North Macedonia, January – December 2022

According to the preliminary data of the State Statistical Office, the total value of exported goods from the Republic of North Macedonia in the period January-December 2022 amounted to 511 444 064 thousand denars, a 19.9% increase compared to the same period last year. The value of imported goods in the same period was 747 191 286 thousand denars, or 25.8% more than the same period last year.

The trade deficit in the period January-December 2022 was 235 747 221 thousand denars.

Import coverage by export in the period January-December 2022 was 68.4%.

The external trade by products shows that in the exports the most significant products are supported catalysts with precious metal or precious metal compounds as the active substance, ignition wiring sets and other wiring sets of a kind used in vehicles, aircraft or ships, parts of the seats of subgroup 821.1 and other supported catalysts. In the imports, the most significant products are petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude), other metals of the platinum group and alloys thereof, unwrought or in powder form, electricity and colloidal precious metals; compounds, inorganic or organic, of precious metals, whether or not chemically defined; amalgams of precious metals.

In the period January-December 2022, according to the total external trade volume, the most important trade partners of the Republic of North Macedonia were Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Serbia and Bulgaria.

External trade expressed in euros and US dollars

Expressed in euros, the total value of exported goods from the Republic of North Macedonia in the period January-December 2022 amounted to 8 299 582 thousand euros, a 19.9% increase compared to the same period last year, while the value of imported goods in the same period was 12 125 228 thousand euros, or 25.8% more than the same period last year. The trade deficit in the period January- December 2022 was 3 825 646 thousand euros.

The total value of exported goods from the Republic of North Macedonia in the period January-December 2022 amounted to 8 729 356 thousand US dollars, a 6.6% increase compared to the same period last year, while the value of imported goods in the same period was 12 756 765 thousand US dollars, or 12.0% more than the same period last year. The trade deficit in the period January-December 2022 was 4 027 408 thousand US dollars.
