Roughly 45.9 million persons resident in Germany were in employment in June 2025. According to provisional calculations of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the seasonally adjusted number of persons in employment therefore fell slightly by 20,000 (0.0%) compared with the previous month. In May 2025, a similar decline in employment figures was registered (-18,000 persons; 0.0%).
Without seasonal adjustment, the number of persons in employment in June 2025 was down slightly by 4,000, or 0.0%, on May 2025. By contrast, in the June average for the years 2022 to 2024, employment increased by 41,000 people compared with the previous month.

Compared with June 2024, the number of persons in employment in June 2025 was virtually unchanged (-3,000 or 0.0%). In May 2025, the year-on-year change rate also stood at 0.0% (+11,000 persons).
Little change in seasonally adjusted number of persons in employment in 2nd quarter of 2025
In the second quarter of 2025, the average number of persons in employment whose place of employment was in Germany (domestic concept) was roughly 46.0 million according to provisional calculations. After seasonal adjustment, the number of persons in employment therefore fell only marginally by 7,000 (0.0%) compared with the previous quarter. Detailed results for the second quarter of 2025 will be released on 15 August 2025.
Adjusted unemployment rate remains at 3.7% in June 2025
According to results of the labour force survey, 1.58 million people were unemployed in June 2025. This was an increase of 76,000, or 5.1%, compared with June 2024. The unemployment rate rose to 3.6%, which represented an increase of 0.2 percentage points on the same month of the previous year (June 2024: 3.4%).
Adjusted for seasonal and irregular effects, the number of unemployed stood at 1.61 million in June 2025, which was a slight decrease on May 2025 (-3,000; -0.2%). The adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.7% compared with the previous month.
